So I felt that we needed some thread with rockmusic discussion (also metal ofcourse). And what should I do when I feel like that? I create this thread.
So what should we do in this thread? We discuss rock music, all from favorite bands to what's the best drummer to what guitar you got. I think you get the idea but before you write anything I just want you to follow these rules:
*No hip hop or pop, or any other genre in this thread.
*Let everybody have their own musictaste, you can't tell somebody that they can't listen to some band because you don't like it.
*Don't just say your favorite bands or so but discuss different bands and stuff since we allready got other threads for "what's ur favorite band?".
*Don't go offtopic for god sake!!!
Anyway, since it's quite hard to start a discussion from nothing i'll give you some of my latest thoughts about music lately, so please send some comments so this thread will start.
I kinda think it's cool to have a great rockband like audioslave doing the 007 song, hopefully it will be good to, afterall audioslave is my alltime favorite band. :yeah:
The singer for tool (maynard) did test sing for alice in chains, he sounded better then layne staley if you ask me. But still the band choosed another singer, why?!?! :o
The bionicle song made by AIK is so good song, I don't think lego should be allowed to have this kind of good theme songs! :/

I think that everyone who listen to rock should try and listen to any j-rock band. For example, MUCC, Girugamesh, Soroban and so on.

I don't really like Dir en Grey, but I guess that's most because I come and think about what most of that kind of j-rock syle bands do on-stage, and that is creepy... ;o

Like that, for example. If you weren't able to see the difference, I'm sure most of the peoples would think that those two are girls, but they're not >.<
The only "good" thing about Visual Kei might be the clothes, since SOME of them are quite nice (Not those wich are god damn tight and such).

yeah, I notice everybody else also got major pain in their fingers when they are playing guitar, but that's something you get over. Allmost like muslims get hard skinn in their forhead.

Heavy metall is not allways good, I prefer softer music because I don't really like growl, but some bands can be good. Dark tranquility for instance is a really good band, though they are not that heavy.
I prefer power metal before heavy metal.

genres like punk and alternative goes into rock. Metal is actually also a genre of rock ;)
It's not completely right that all heavy metal band doesn't contain growl. But thrash and power metal is another thing

I wouldn't bet too much on it, since the whole metal genre is sounding abit the same and different songs are different genre, so I say would say but I won't since I would get banned for it.
Btw, according to iTunes and some shitty sites I found on Google some of the songs made by the bands I wrote was classified as Heavy Metal.

I can't say I even like Sabbath, I like Pink Floydd, I do also like Rage Againts because I thought they're style of music was unique, and I can say I'm a Nirvana fan, although the massive hype of Smells Like Teen Spirit which, in my view was Nirvana's and eventually Kurt Cobains downfall, always being made to play the same song over and over must really drive you insane.
I like bands along the lines of Chili Peppers, Muse (Which is my favorate band because of Matt Bellamy's very unique voice), Linkin Park, The Fratellis etc, I'm not gonna bother listing all the bands I like to listen too, my music sence is more wider than most people, if it sounds unique and it gets my foot moving to the tune, then I'll like it.

Pink Floyd are reffered to as classic proggressive or just prog rock.

I don't like RHCP and Nirvana why?
RHCP: just bad music, overrated and to much commercial about them.
Nirvana: also overrated, Cobain don't play guitar good, same with the rest of the band on their instruments. Yes Cobain had a great voice but why don't I like him singing? Couse he sound the same all the time and he didn't use his voice the way he could do.
And RATM is good, why? Couse they got Morello, Tim C and Brad. I don't really like Zach as a singer but his sound fits to ratm. Though I prefer to listen to audioslave (band members of ratm with singer from soundgarden, Chris Cornell)
And I would also like to say that tool is the best progressive rock band, no band got a chance to challange them.

And Nirvana made good music aswell. Simple yet so good, that's actually very hard, to make something really good out of something very simple. It doesen't matter that Kurt Cobain couldn't solo like Hendrix, he wrote great lyrics and had a very unique voice.

RHCP aren't that good, really! they first became big when they started to play live naked or with one sock on their penis, and that says quite alot. Some people like to say that flea is world best bassplayer also. But that's just soooo wrong! He only basslapp and that's quite easy actually. If you want a good bassist look for the one in tool, guaranted best one I know!
Nirvana might make simple music, and that's why they aren't good. I get bored on their songs after I hear them 10times, it shouldn't be like that.
Also the lyrics aren't that good, come on you heard some many better lyrics then nirvana's. Seriusly "rape me" wtf is that? And you need a good guitarist, that's what makes a band good.
Now you might say that there's so many fans of these bands but honestly, there is more fans of britney then there is metal fans.

Nirvanas music was perhpas simple but that doesn't mean it was bad. Curt has if u ask me on of the greatest voices ever and his lyrics was perfect for it. Take some time and lissen to "The man who sold the world" and dont judge it for its lack of cords.

Well, thats the bad Cobain don't use his voice like he could. If you listen to Chris Cornell (my favorite) you hear him scream and other stuff not just singing in the same tone through the whole song. And songs like "like a stone" also got quite few chords but it's still really good. (sry for audioslave examples  )

Things aren't always what they seem to be, don't judge songs like Rape Me because of its title. And yes, Flea is definitely overrated but he is still a good musician and he's pretty damn funky, and John Frusciante is a really, really good innovative guitarist. I mean, listed to Blood Sugar Sex Magik, he was like 19 on that record and plays totally sick things.
And you keep making statements based on your own values and thoughts, not on facts. For example "you need a good guitarist to make a good band" is your own opinion but you make it sound like it's pure fact. Look at some of the greatest bands of our time; The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Clash etc, neither of those bands have had any real über guitarists but they still made fucking awesome songs.
Granberg
October 22nd, 2006, 11:36
And u dont need a great songer, as long he attract the lisseners.
Kaktusen
October 22nd, 2006, 12:35
It's all my own statement, I can't speak for somebody else.
As I said flea is overrated, not that he's bad and you're saying the same thing.
Frusciante is a good guitarist, no question about it. I liked stadium arcadium (the song) for a while but later I stopped listen on it.
And as I said, rhcp became big first when they had live concert without clothes on their bodys. And that I don't like them.
When it comes to nirvana everybody know that Cobain got a great voice but as I said earlier he don't use it enough. That's the different between him and other singers. If you listen to bands like shinedown which is a pretty unknown band you will hear awesome vocals but maybe not to good drumming and bassplaying. And the guitar player is quite average. But what makes a big difference is that you don't get bored by their songs since they don't sound the same like other they've made. Also they made a acoustic cover of simple man. Now you might think -"a cover.. bad band" but if you take a great song like that from a well known band like lynrd skynrd and make it better, you need some badass singer.

Umm. Symphonic black metal fits in the genre of black metal, right? And I'm not INTO black and such stuff so I don't know all the subgenres. Don't forget Wikipedia is weritten by people like us ;) I could go and write that 50 cent is power metal ;)
Also, I heard from some people that CoB is power metal, and everytime I hear that I just laugh my ass off. They ARE melodic death metal as it says, but far from Power Metal. One thing that distinguishes power metal from other metal genres is the often used high pitched voice, the continues melodies on the rythm part and basicly foten fast drums. Children of Bodom might fit into power metal IF they would change some things, as actually get a high pitched singer and not growler (the growler is pretty high pitched though).'
(I might mention some power metal bands for you, so you know what it is;
Helloween [pioneers], Sonata Arctica, Stratovarius, Blind Guardian, Hammerfall [Hammerfall are also having a great influence of Heavy Metal, so you could say Heavy/power])
Also In Flames is Death Metal with influence of heavy Metal, however if we would count influenses like that the list of every band would be way too long.
They are Death Metal. period.
And yes, I know hoe thrash is spelled, noticed my other mistakes in that post? ;)
Slusker; I know very much what I am talking about ;)
"And BTW I can promise you, YOU DO NOT KNOW ALL HEAVY METAL BANDS ON THIS ROUND BALL WE CALL EARTH!"
Trust me, I've heard 99% of the labeled heavy Metal bands, and some unsigned.
And it is pretty easy to distinguish Thrash from heavy, and power from death, and death from heavy, and black from heavy, etc.
You must learn to decide what genre it is by listening to the music, not reading an article on wikipedia or reading the file info on your downloaded MP3.
That was all my answers, sorry for possible spelling mistakes. Such things might occur, writing the post I did.

Lol. By who? In Flames are NOT classsified as Heavy Metal, and I for one know that!
As I said before, learn to listen what genre it is, don't read, and especially not on your MP3 file.
I once read that Iron Maiden was "Death Metal", according to a Mp3 file on winamp.
And sometimes Maiden was power metal and Dimmu Borgir classic rock.
"I know what I'm listening too", yes I hoped you would know but obviously not. Please, do me a favour, go to an In Flames gig (I've been there by the way, have you? ;) ) and tell the people in the queue how much In Flames is heavy metal. Most of 'em would just laugh their asses off! :)

2. I'd say that Children of Bodom are some kind of Thrash metal with alot of keyboards. Anyways, it sucks.

It's just fact that RHCP became big when they had nude concert. You can't deny that couse it's fact. Sure they made good music to but it's just not my kind of music, and I don't like it. They are also great musicians but they became big first when they had nude concerts. And that Flea get so much prices and shit for being the worlds greatest bassist sometimes piss me off. Nevermind is very often mentioned as on top 10 lists on best records ever made in some of the most respected music magazines, you can't fight fact.
So, what're saying is basically that RHCP sold more than 10 million copies of Blood Sugar Sex Magik because they did a few nude concerts? Come on!

I don't 'dig' nNirvana. I've listened to many tracks (in junior my all peepz listened to Nirvana), and I have only thought they were 'OK'. And nothing special. So what, am I a retard now? Same goes with the other 2 bands mentioned. I'm just not into that kind of music so much.
Gosh, let people have their discussions!
As I have understood it the Tibia rules apply here as well. Please have a look at rule 2a:

"Rule 2a

Comment:
Please watch the way you express yourself in the game or on the website to make sure other players will not feel offended by your behaviour. This includes your statements in Tibia as well as on the boards, e.g. threads made to harass other players, and your character or account information."

They started to sell more albums when John Frusciante joined the band. There's a difference in sales between the 2nd and 3rd album, of around 1.5 million copies, and between the 3rd and 4th around 8 million copies. Are you trying to make me believe that this ONLY happened due to nude concerts?

Well, like you say, in the end it all comes down to your own personal music taste. RHCP can be pretty fun in the beginning, but the more you listen to it the more you start to dislike it. Yeah sure, maybe their earlier albums are pretty good but their later albums sound the same to me, except for a few tracks, which they of course release as singles.
Personally I get the feeling that if you're new to this whole "rock n roll" thing you start with RHCP, but the more you get involved and start searching for more(and better) music you forget about RHCP and never go back.
But hey, that's just my opinion. ;)

It's not only couse they started to play nude, but many girls got attracted. My mum told me that she and her friends bought some albums just because they were hot. And I don't think they're the only one who did that. But ofcourse it's because their music to. But most of the female fans started to like them because they started to play nude. They stopped with that now I think?

I don't even really like RHCP particularly much, I'm just defending them as a band because they are talented and great musicians. Same goes for Nirvana, I'm not a huge fan at all, I've only heard the songs you sent me, which I like, yeah, but I didn't exactly fall in love. I'm defending them because they meant a lot to modern music.

I actually got whole nirvanas unplugged performance and I think it's sooooo overrated. Why not listen to alice in chains unplugged performance? It's alot better. And alice in chains were alot more revolutionizing then nirvana, same thing with soundgarden, or atleast soundgarden made alot greater music. If you ask me that is. ;)

This is the English section of the boards, obay the rules.
I'd like to see the source where that information came from.
Melodic deathmetal might not have that big of a connection to the real deathmetal genre, which is silly, when the music doesn't really resemble with deathmetal at all. Even worse is that they shortened melodic deathmetal to melodeath, it looks emo, like your hair.
I mean, it's the music itself that determines what genre it should be pinned to. Not even the artists themselves can decide what genre the music is, because in that case i'll start a deathmetal band and claim it to be R'n'B with influences from dansband. They might want to tell the listeners what their interpretation of the deal is, but it's not facts then.
Just becasue some wikipediawhore decided that the music is to be called melodeath, doesn't mean that it's 100% true anyway. That won't change even if god himself names the genre melodeath.
In fact, how the hell can you claim its melodeath, who decided and where is the written rule for how the music has to sound to be melodeath. Could it just be that there's really no constant for this? You can't really say that theres no doubt about it, because there is. These questions are all about interpretation
